- How much does it cost?
- Free to create. We charge a flat 7.5% per contribution, all in. That covers our platform plus the mobile money network fees on the way in. Coordinators see the gross amount on their ledger, and the withdraw screen always shows the breakdown and what will land before they confirm. One thing the 7.5% does not cover: once the money is in your wallet, your mobile money provider (MTN, Airtel, M-Pesa, etc.) charges their own fees when you cash out or send onward. That is between you and your carrier. Contributor tips are optional and default to zero.
- Who holds the money?
- SenteMe itself does not hold any of the money. Every contribution lands in a wallet held by our licensed payment partner and stays in that partner’s custody until the coordinator initiates a disbursement. Multi-step disbursements are first-class. Coordinators commonly send partial sums during the week of an event.
- What if I am in the diaspora?
- Not at launch. SenteMe is mobile money-first for the African market. International payment support is on the roadmap. Leave your email on the homepage and we will let you know when it ships.
- Is this regulated?
- We operate as a Delaware corporation (Mea Global Inc), the standard corporate structure for US-incorporated peer-to-peer payment platforms. Peer-to-peer campaign pooling does not require a crowdfunding licence in our operating countries. Kenya CMA and Uganda both explicitly carve out non-investment contributions, and our model is mobile-money facilitated peer transfers, not public solicitation of investment. The mobile-money rails are run by licensed payment partners that hold the local money-services licences in each country we operate in.
- How private is the ledger?
- A campaign starts as a draft visible only to its coordinator. When you publish, the running list and disbursements become public to anyone with the link. Contributors can mark themselves anonymous; in-kind items show a label without an account link.
- Can I cancel a pledge?
- Yes. Pledged contributions stay on the list as pending until paid. The contributor can cancel their own pending pledge, or the coordinator can clean up aging pledges from the dashboard.
