WhatsApp contribution messages for funerals, weddings and medical bills
When a family needs help, the first message usually goes out on WhatsApp. These templates cover the messages committees send most: the first request, the reminder, the update and the thank-you. Copy one, replace everything in [brackets], and delete any line that does not fit your situation.
Words between *stars* show in bold on WhatsApp. Keep them if you like the look, or remove the stars.
Funeral contribution messages
A funeral message has two jobs: to share the news with care, and to tell people clearly how they can help. Say what the money is for. People give more readily when they know it covers the mortuary, transport or the burial itself.
Announcement and contribution request
The first message to the family and friends group.

A few weeks before the day, once suppliers need deposits.

Medical bill contribution messages
Share only what the patient and family are comfortable with. A hospital estimate or bill, even summarised, helps people trust that the amount is real.
Appeal for treatment costs
When the family knows the hospital estimate.

After the operation or discharge. This is the message that makes people give again next time.

What every contribution message needs
- Who needs help and what happened, in one or two sentences.
- What the money pays for, not just the total.
- How much is needed and the date it is needed by.
- Exactly where to send it, with the name the payment will show.
- Who to call with questions, usually the chairperson and the treasurer.
Before you send money to a WhatsApp appeal
Scammers copy real funeral and hospital messages and change only the payment number. If an appeal reaches you second-hand, call the family or a committee member you know before sending.
Check that the name shown when you pay matches the treasurer or campaign named in the message. If the name is different, stop and ask.
Be careful with appeals that push you to send immediately, or that ask you to keep the request private.
Keeping track of who has contributed
Most committees keep a numbered list in the group and repost it every time someone pays. It works, but mobile money messages end up spread across several phones, names get missed, and the treasurer spends evenings reconciling.
